What Happens at Your Smoothening Appointment
Consultation
We go through your hair history, including colour, bleach, previous smoothening and home heat use, and what result you want. Tell us if you love your curls, because smoothening changes the curl pattern of the treated hair.
Patch test and strand test
Every chemical hair service at Popyz starts with a patch test and a strand test. The strand test shows how your hair reacts and what result is realistic. If your hair cannot handle it, I will tell you.
Wash and application
The hair is washed and the product applied section by section, kept off the scalp where the product requires it. On a touch-up, only the new growth is treated.
Processing, drying and ironing
Processing time and iron heat are adjusted for your hair type. Fine or coloured hair gets a gentler approach than thick, coarse hair.
Finishing and aftercare
You leave with aftercare instructions for the product used, including when to wash and when you can tie your hair.
This is a long appointment, often several hours for long or thick hair, so plan your day around it.

How Long Results Last, and Aftercare
Smoothening changes the treated hair, so it stays smooth until it grows out and you need root touch-ups. Keratin and similar treatments wear off gradually over a few months. How long any of them looks good depends heavily on aftercare.
- Follow the wash timing you are given for your product.
- Keep hair loose for the first few days: no tight ties, clips or tucking behind the ears.
- Use a sulphate-free shampoo and condition every wash.
- Use heat protectant and low heat if you style.
