The Bridal Beauty Seminar, Calicut
On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, I held the Popyz Bridal Beauty Seminar in Calicut, with Makeida Midas Beauty Concepts as our beauty partner. I presented it as a professional makeup artist and beauty educator, and the programme included an interactive Q&A session. It was organised in four parts.
1. Skin fundamentals
We started with the five skin types — normal, dry, oily, combination and sensitive — and how to identify them: visual signs across the T-zone and cheeks, a quick blot-test or touch-check before makeup, and the common mistake of judging skin type on a single day. I spoke about client consultation, asking about routine, sensitivities and past reactions first. Then we went through skin preparation for each type, including patch testing, fragrance-free products and minimal layers for sensitive skin.
2. Face techniques
This part covered face types, blush and contouring — understanding face shape before you contour, blending, highlighting to balance, and adapting contour for different skin tones. We looked at current trends in bridal makeup, such as soft dewy finishes, bold defined eyes, personalised looks that reflect regional bridal styles, and long-wear formulas for multi-day weddings. I also shared how I build a reliable kit: matching base to skin type and tone, choosing sweat- and humidity-resistant formulas, and testing products under different lighting.
3. Hair fundamentals
We went through hair types — straight, wavy, curly, coily, fine, medium and thick or coarse — and how to prepare each one before styling. For example, root lifting and texture for straight hair, frizz control and heat protection for wavy hair, moisture and sectioning for curly hair, and avoiding heavy serums on fine hair.
4. Growing your career
The last part was about the business side: building a strong portfolio, pricing with confidence, growing through referrals and social media, and staying organised with hygiene and a well-kept kit. We discussed client handling — active listening, setting expectations on timelines and pricing upfront, staying calm on the day and handling feedback gracefully. I closed with the common mistakes I see makeup artists make:
- Skipping the consultation on skin type, allergies and expectations.
- Choosing a foundation that does not match the neck and body.
- Over-powdering, which leaves a cakey, dull finish.
- Reusing brushes or sponges without sanitising them between clients.
- Testing a look only under flash, not in natural or venue light.
Want to hear about the next seminar? Seminar dates are announced when they are fixed. Message me on WhatsApp and we will let you know when the next one is planned.
Cosmetology Course
Alongside seminars, Popyz Academy offers a cosmetology course. Fees, batch dates and course details are shared on enquiry, so please message or call us and we will send you the current information. It is worth asking your questions directly — about timing, what you would like to learn and where you want your career to go — so we can tell you honestly whether the course fits.
