The Colour Services We Offer
These are the colour services we offer. At your consultation I will tell you which one gets you closest to the look you want.
Balayage Colouring
Colour painted by hand onto sections of hair, so it looks softer and more blended than foils. Balayage grows out gently, which is why many of my clients like it — the regrowth line is less obvious.
Ombre Coloring
A gradual shift from darker roots to lighter lengths and ends. It suits long hair especially well, and it can be as subtle or as bold as you like.
Highlights (per streak)
Individual lighter streaks placed where you want them — around the face, through the crown or scattered for a sun-kissed look. Highlights are charged per streak, so you can start with a few and add more later.
Grey Coverage (Root Touch-up) and Grey Coverage (Ammonia-Free)
For grey hair at the roots or scattered through the hair. We offer a root touch-up and an ammonia-free option. The ammonia-free colour has a milder smell, which many clients find more comfortable; it still needs a patch test like any other colour.
Damage Control For Hair Coloring
A treatment added to a colour service to help protect the hair during the process. If your hair is already dry, lightened or chemically treated, I will usually suggest it.
Plan the order of chemical services. If you are thinking about smoothening or keratin as well as colour, tell me before we start. The order and the gap between services matter for the health of your hair, and we will plan them together.
What Happens at Your Colour Appointment
Consultation
Bring photos of colour you like, and a few you do not. I look at your natural shade, previous colour, henna, and any chemical treatments, and tell you honestly what is possible in one sitting.
Patch test and strand test
A patch test checks your skin's response to the colour. A strand test shows how your hair takes the colour and how it feels afterwards. If you are new to colour with us, I will tell you when to come in for the patch test.
Colour application
We section and apply the colour using professional brands such as L'Oréal Professionnel, Schwarzkopf and Wella, and give it the time it needs to develop.
Rinse, condition and style
Your hair is washed, conditioned and styled so you can see the finished colour in the mirror and in daylight before you leave.
Balayage and ombré take longer than a root touch-up, so keep the afternoon free. I will give you an idea of timing when you book.
How Long Colour Lasts and Aftercare
How long your colour looks fresh depends on the shade, your hair, how often you wash it and how much sun it gets. As general guidance:
- Wait a couple of days before the first shampoo after colouring.
- Use a shampoo and conditioner made for colour-treated hair, and wash with lukewarm rather than hot water.
- Use heat protection before straightening or blow-drying, and keep hair covered in strong sun.
- Grey coverage usually needs a root touch-up as your hair grows. Balayage and ombré can go longer between appointments because they grow out softly.
- Ask us about a gloss or a repair treatment such as Olaplex between colour visits if your lengths feel dry.
